Cheese, potatoes & charcuterie per person for a raclette night
This raclette calculator tells you how much raclette cheese, potatoes, charcuterie and vegetables to buy for your raclette night. Enter adults, children and the style: classic Swiss, with charcuterie, with meat and vegetables, or vegetarian. It starts from 7 oz (200 g) of cheese per person, and you can change every amount.
Plan 7.1 oz (200 g) of raclette cheese per person, so 1.8 lb (800 g) for 4 people. Add 10.6 oz (300 g) of potatoes and 3.5 oz (100 g) of charcuterie per guest; the classic Swiss version is just cheese with 7.1 oz (200 g) of potatoes. Children count as half a portion, and the table covers 2 to 30 people.

Plan 7.1 oz (200 g) of raclette cheese per person, which is 1.8 lb (800 g) for 4 people and 4.4 lb (2.0 kg) for 10. With plenty of other sides, 5.3 oz (150 g) is enough; for big appetites or few sides, go up to 8.8 oz (250 g). If you scrape from a whole or half wheel, buy about 10.6 oz (300 g) extra, because the edge never comes off completely.
The calculator multiplies an amount per person by the number of guests. Children count as half a portion, and every amount is rounded up in steps of 3.5 oz (100 g), because with raclette a little leftover cheese beats an empty plate. Pick the style that fits your evening: Classic Swiss with cheese and potatoes, the French way With charcuterie, With meat & vegetables, a German favorite cooked in the small pans under a tabletop raclette party grill, or a Vegetarian spread. Under “Adjust amounts” you can change every value, for example if your guests are serious cheese lovers.
These figures come from recipes and guides by Raclette Suisse, Swissmilk, the Haute-Savoie tourism office and German raclette guides. The vegetarian style is derived from them: the meat portion simply goes to the vegetables.
Raclette is a slow meal: everyone melts one portion at a time and lingers at the table. That’s why it pays to be generous with cheese and potatoes and go easy on the meat, since the cheese and potatoes are what fill people up. If you’re also serving a salad, a starter or dessert, you can lower the cheese to 5.3 oz (150 g) per person.
